Hello Friday.
April 26 2024
Maybe you already give back year-round, or maybe practicing thankfulness this holiday season has got you in the giving spirit. All we know is there are more than enough great causes in Seattle to give your time to.
Whether you’re a natural-born mentor, an artsy type, into the outdoors, or just want to provide a warm meal for those in need, there’s a nearby volunteer opportunity that could use your help. Here are 18 organizations to show a little love to this holiday season:

If you’re passionate about food + charity 🍽️
FareStart | What a hot kitchen. FareStart teaches cooking skills to those who’ve had trouble finding stable employment, and also serves food to schools and area shelters. It needs volunteers to write personal notes to accompany the meals.
If the holidays are your favorite time of year 🦃
Mary’s Place | This Seattle-based organization focused on addressing family homelessness seeks shelter and kitchen support, as well as folks to support after-school activities for youth. It’s also organizing a Giving Tree Tags program to fulfill childrens’ holiday wishes.
Natural-born teachers + mentors 🍎
Friends of the Children | The South Seattle-based group committed to one-on-one tutoring is always on the hunt for tutors, support for family engagement events, virtual teen summits, and members of its ambassador board.
The outdoorsy types 🌳
Forterra | Talk about a breath of fresh air. This org has helped secure more than 275,000 acres of land since 1989 for conservation, restoration, and community use. Volunteers can participate in current projects that align with its mission, including the Green Seattle Partnership.
If you want to stay at home 🏠
Wellspring Family Services | Calling all knitters. The Washington org seeking to end family homelessness wants some people to pitch in to craft handmade blankets, hats, and other items for children aged 0-17.
Share with friends, neighbors, family, and anyone else who’s looking to give back.

Gabe here. One of the Seattle nonprofits I’ve been involved with as a tutor and ambassador member is Friends of the Children, a mentorship program you’ll find on our volunteer list today. Though keeping that up with remote learning has been a challenge, the reward is immense — and the kids always keep me on my toes. (Need to improve my Jenga skills.)
