Hello Friday. March 29 2024 On your marks, get set, let's go. The Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon takes place this Sunday, bringing the in-person race back after being all virtual last year.
But there’s so much more surrounding this marathon than a single 26.2-mile run. Starting Friday, those looking to burn off some Thanksgiving calories can find a whole host of fun fitness-related activities for all ages. Here’s the rundown.
Shop ‘til ya drop 🛍️ From Fri., Nov. 26-Sat., Nov. 27, there’s a fitness expo at the Westin downtown on 5th Ave. Anybody is welcome to swing by, sample some health food snacks, peruse running apparel, and get info on upcoming regional races.
Seattle kids marathon 🏆 This program encourages children from kindergarten through eighth grade to complete the total length of a marathon at their own pace, running one mile at a time each day over the course of several months. On Sat., Nov. 27 at Gas Works Park, the lil’ speed demons will run the final 1.2-mile stretch, with others welcome to join them.
The main event 🎽 The full and half marathons start bright and early Sunday at 6 a.m. While there are no cheer stations this year, those who want to watch the race live can still sign up to volunteer, and fans can trace the route online here. And if all this running talk has inspired you to train for a future race, here are a few to mark on your motivational calendar. *Cue “Rocky” theme* 💪

Santa’s found a prime Seattle parking spot. Starting Fri., Nov. 26, the Space Needle will be hosting Kris Kringle and his slick sleigh atop the revolving building. If you have friends or family in town for the holidays, this could be one festive activity — though there are a lot more ideas to keep in mind. SEA current: Gabe’s planning to visit family in Spokane for Thanksgiving weekend, and is looking forward to a full weekend of stuffing his face. It can be a long trip through the Pass, and good listening material is a must. One podcast he’d recommend for any movie buff is “You Must Remember This,” which takes deep dives into Hollywood’s past.
Did a friend forward this to you? It can be in your inbox tomorrow a.m.
